We have one ambition. Do you?
We have one ambition, to be the best at everything we do for our clients. It’s a company culture that’s been passed down through decades and is in the DNA of every colleague who works at Walter Scott.

We believe there are common values that define a Walter Scott employee: an ambition to strive for excellence; openness; inclusiveness; approachability; collaboration; passion; and loyalty.

Bringing a culture like ours to life is, we believe, the only way we will realise our ambition to build resilient relationships and enduring partnerships with clients.

Long-term investors. Long-term careers.

Walter Scott is a long-term investor. Hence, it’s no surprise that our people choose to work here for longer too. This is a place where you have a career, not just a job. And because our people choose to stay, the exceptional levels of service and communication our clients have come to expect are always present.

A place where everyone is welcome.

We offer openness, respect and opportunity for all. This starts with having the policies and procedures in place to support diversity, equity and inclusion. We believe everyone who joins us should see Walter Scott as a positive, welcoming and engaging place to work. That means dismantling the barriers to achievement and valuing the perspectives that come with a diverse workforce. It also means supporting the organisations which help us reach a diverse group of talented individuals, such as The Robertson Trust, Future Asset, the Juniper Trust and Black Professionals United Kingdom.

Don’t take our word for it. Listen to your potential new colleagues.

Internships.

Our paid internship programme will run for six weeks during the summer months and you will be based in our Edinburgh offices. The programme is for penultimate and final-year students and provides a front row seat to the world of investment management. You’ll work in a team that best suits both your skills and our business requirements. This will be the Investment Research or Operations areas. Both will give you a broad understanding of what we do and how we do it.

What are we looking for in you?

We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals with enquiring minds, excellent communication skills, initiative, adaptability and a thirst to succeed. You should have outstanding academic achievements. However, your degree needn’t be confined to finance, and your achievements should be combined with interests outside education. It’s people with different perspectives that drive us forward.

How do you apply?

The application window for our 2026 internship is now closed. We will re-open this in September 2026, for our 2027 programme. Look out for the announcement which will be posted on our LinkedIn page.

You can request to work in a particular area or team in your cover letter but the final decision on the placement of interns lies with Walter Scott.

Of course, our internship pay is competitive.

Yes, you will need a visa to work in the UK on a permanent basis to join our internship programme.

We review applications as they come in so please give us some time to do this. We will hold assessment days at our Edinburgh offices in January 2026. This will include interviews as well as group exercises and the chance to meet people from Walter Scott.
