Based on our experience, we believe ESG factors are an important indicator of a company’s ability to prosper over the long term. That’s why we integrate our assessment of these factors into our investment process. It’s not enough to know that a company is profitable, we need to be confident that it can generate profit in an enduring manner.
All aspects of company analysis rest with our Research team. ESG risks and opportunities are considered in the same way as any other part of the team’s research.
We are committed to being good stewards of our clients’ assets. Through the careful allocation, management, and oversight of capital, we aim to create long-term value for our clients.
Regularly engaging with company management teams and exercising our shareholder voting rights in a considered manner help us make better, more informed investment decisions.
Sustainability at Walter Scott
We expect the companies in which we invest to strive towards high standards. We expect no less of ourselves. Whether it’s looking after the wellbeing of our people, limiting the environmental impact of what we do, or supporting our local communities, we are committed to acting responsibly and sustainably.
Annual Sustainability Report 2022
Through our Annual Sustainability Report, we aim to demonstrate the work we have undertaken over the past year across our investment research, company engagement and proxy voting. The report also includes an update on what we as a firm are doing to continually improve upon our sustainability credentials. This report also serves as our response to the UK Stewardship Code.
Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures Entity Report
We have produced our first entity level ‘TCFD’ report, available below, setting out our evolving approach to managing climate and transition related risks and opportunities pertaining to both our own operations and our clients’ portfolios.
Focusing on work undertaken by the firm in 2022, the report is in alignment with the disclosure recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and complies with the relevant FCA ESG Sourcebook requirements.
Product level TCFD disclosures for individual portfolios are also available on demand. Please follow up with your usual Walter Scott client contact if this would be of interest.
