In conversation with a Walter Scott Intern

Insights into the Operations Internship programme from 2024 intern Neelakshi Dua.

The atmosphere at Walter Scott is different from what I had previously thought to be typical of an investment house. It felt that as interns we were integrated into the wider staff team, not left behind on the sidelines

I was originally an intern with Walter Scott and I was lucky to be offered a permanent role after I graduated. It’s an exciting place to work with every day presenting new challenges. I feel fortunate to be empowered to take responsibility and make decisions. My understanding of investment management has broadened as I’ve learnt directly from experienced colleagues who are happy to share their knowledge.

When I graduated, I didn’t imagine that I would end up working in investment management but the transition is not one I’ll ever regret. In my role here, I’ve had the opportunity to really understand our business and, crucially, our clients. As a relatively small business, you know everyone and lines of communications are short. Every day is different, which keeps it interesting and I take great pride in being able to work with our clients around the world on a daily basis.
